WHAT DO THE "DOTS" MEAN?
WHAT DO THE DOTS AND OTHER DESIGNATIONS MEAN?
(Note: A sign has been placed on the bulletin board over the card catalog showing the meaning of the dots.)
In order to assist in the finding of certain kinds of media, colored dots have been placed on the spines.
| RED | History of the Church of the Holy Spirit |
| BLUE | Children's Videos |
| GREEN | Foreign Language Media |
| YELLOW | Media for and About Teens |
OTHER DESIGNATIONS:
1) TYPES OF COLLECTIONS
REF: Reference books. These materials cannot be checked out of the library without special permission of one of the librarians or a member of the church staff.
CRC: *Catholic Resource Center. These materials are normally for the use of the religious education instructors. However, they can be checked out by all parishioners with the understanding that an instructor has the option to request that the material be returned to be used in the classroom when necessary.
LWC: *Liturgy of the Word for Children. These materials are for the instructors of this children’s program held during the 11:00 AM mass on Sunday morning.
RCIA: *Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. These materials are used in the classes for those who wish to know more about the Catholic faith with the possibility of becoming a Catholic.
*Note: CRC, LWC, and RCIA materials are interspersed with the adult books, videos, etc. The appropriate designation may be found on the spine label.
2) TYPES OF MEDIA
Books: Are shelved according the Dewey Decimal system and the author’s name. Exception is made for biographies and autobiographies which are shelved according to the person the book is about.
Audio Cassettes: Are designated with an AC above the Dewey number.
Video Cassettes: Are designated with a V or VC above the Dewey number. They are separated into two categoriesies, adult and children. Children’s videos have a blue dot on the spine.
CDs: Are on a special CD shelf unit next to the desk.
Kits: Are usually found in a plastic media bag and contain various types of media but NOT including audio or visual cassettes or CDs.
RA: Read-Alongs are a type of kit which includes books and some form of audio visual media such as a video or audiocassette.
