Why I
Give
I am 15 years old and have
always loved little children. My
mom often speaks of how blessed we are and how poor
So, when my best friend
and I completed the Red Cross Babysitting Course we started Angel Keepers, a
parent’s night out one Saturday a month at our church. I knew I wanted to give my share of
the money we earned to Lami Fund of
Once a month we have a
group of about 25 kids and we choose a different theme. We read the children a bible story,
feed them a snack and dinner, play games, and make two crafts related to the
theme.
I hope my work donating
to Lami Fund inspires other youth around the word to
do special projects and donate the
proceeds to this worthwhile cause.

Church of the Holy Spirit this
year is joining with other Faith Communities in calling attention to the a
topic of great importance --- organ and tissue donation. There are more
than 103,000 Americans waiting for an organ transplant; over 3,300 in
All major religions approve of
organ and tissue donation. Nationally, 25,000 mothers, fathers and
children receive the gift of life each year. One organ and tissue donor
can help over 50 people and tissue donation offers thousands of people life
saving and life enhancing tissue transplants.
This weekend take the opportunity to reflect on the
spirit of giving and the critical need for more organ and tissue donors.

Dear Holy Spirit
parishioner,
The peace of Christ be with you.
An archdiocesan medal
recognizing meritorious volunteer service is being initiated this year. It will be an annual recognition of
service. Each pastor is invited
to select one person to receive this award. The award will be named The Christ the
King Medal and will be presented to the honorees on the Solemnity of Our Lord
Jesus Christ the King at the Mass celebrated at the cathedral of the
Immaculate Conception in
The honoree is to be a
Catholic in good standing and is selected on the basis of exemplary and
extraordinary volunteer service.
Upon recommendation of our Pastoral Council members I have selected
Mr. Gerry Shook as the Holy Spirit parishioner to receive the award this
year.
Some of his volunteer
services include: usher; Pastoral Council member; co-chair of the Welcoming
Catholics Home” program; Knights of Columbus; collecting medical supplies for
Haiti; helping at the Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat House; being a Volunteer
in Police Service for the Montgomery Police department; and serving on the Catholic Social
Services Board.
When Archbishop Rodi
recommended that The Christ the King Medal be give
to one parishioner each year, we pastors let out a collective groan. How can a pastor pick just one person,
when so many parishioners volunteer their time and talent in so many ways? Many people are
deserving, but only one can be selected form each parish each
year. So, I congratulate Gerry
Shook as the first recipient from our parish. And I join with Gerry in thanking each
of you who give generously of your time, talent, and resources to serve God
and His People, in our parish and in our community.
Gratefully in Christ
Fr. Charles Troncale,
Pastor
