Angel Keepers

Drop off your kids and have a fun night out while your kids have a fun time with us!

Saturday, November 21, 2009

4:30-8:30pm in the Parish Hall

Children to age 7

$8.00 per child for the whole night.  We will play games, do a craft, have a snack & dinner.  Please call Rebecca Smith at 271-7579 or Katie LoBello at 244-1735.  Rebecca & Katie are Red Cross certified in babysitting & CPR

Why I Give

I am 15 years old and have always loved little children.  My mom often speaks of how blessed we are and how poor Haiti was when she visited there many years ago.

So, when my best friend and I completed the Red Cross Babysitting Course we started Angel Keepers, a parent’s night out one Saturday a month at our church.  I knew I wanted to give my share of the money we earned to Lami Fund of Haiti.

Once a month we have a group of about 25 kids and we choose a different theme.  We read the children a bible story, feed them a snack and dinner, play games, and make two crafts related to the theme.

I hope my work donating to Lami Fund inspires other youth around the word to do special projects and donate the   proceeds to this worthwhile cause.

Christ the King Celebration

Sunday, November 22, 2009

All are cordially invited to attend the annual archdiocesan Christ the King Celebration to be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009. This year’s celebration will revive the tradition of the Christ the King Procession. Participants should gather at the cross in Bienville Square, downtown Mobile, by 10:30 a.m. Archbishop Rodi will give an opening prayer and begin the recitation of the Holy Rosary. The procession will continue recitation of the Rosary as it leaves Bienville Square and processes west on Dauphin Street to Cathedral Square. Upon completion of the Rosary, participants will enter the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, where Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. The procession route encompasses a little more than three city blocks, so those unable to walk that distance are invited to be seated in the Cathedral. During Mass, Archbishop Rodi will confer the first-ever Christ the King Medal to honor a volunteer from each parish who has been nominated by their pastor for exemplary service to the parish. Everyone is invited to participate in this marvelous archdiocesan-wide celebration and witness to our faith and heritage.

Insights of Saint John Marie Vianney, Curé of Ars

When God desired to give a food to our soul to sustain it in the pilgrimage of life, he looked upon creation and found nothing that was worthy of it.

Then he turned again to himself, and resolved to give himself…

O my soul, how great you are, since only God can satisfy you!  The soul can feed only on God; only God can suffice it; only God can fill it; only God can satiate its hunger.  Its God is absolutely necessary to it…

My God, how can it be that Christians actually remain so long without giving this food to their poor souls?  They are close to this glorious Sacrament, like a person dying of thirst by the side of a river, when he has only to bend his head…

like a person remaining in poverty with a treasury close beside him, when he has only to stretch out his hand…

Do not say, to justify your estrangement from the holy table, that you have too much to do.  Has not the divine Savior said:  “Come to me all you that labor and are exhausted: come to me, I will relieve you.”  Can you resist an invitation so full of love and tenderness?...

If our Lord had been thinking of our worthiness he would never have instituted his glorious sacrament of love, for no one in the world is worthy of it—not the saints, nor the angels, nor archangels, nor the blessed Virgin…

but he was thinking our needs.
