Catholics Returning Home
A
Ministry to Inactive
Catholics Who
might benefit from Catholics Returning Home?
Even though people become inactive in
the Church for a lot of different reasons, this program
is for any of these who are seeking a
 more
honest relationship with God, and are ready to explore
the Church's role in that
relationship. What is Catholics Returning
Home all about? Those who have become inactive in the
Church are given the chance to share hurts, decisions,
or events that led to their leaving or drifting away, be
offered apologies for the sins of those in the Church
who have caused them pain, and experience new
perspectives and renewed invitations to return to the
Catholic community. If successful, participants
find ways to move past old hurts or issues, and
re-center God in their lives. Why is our
parish offering Catholics Returning Home? "In our
families, most all of us know, or have known, the pain
of family gatherings in which there are loved ones
missing from the table - due to anger, shame, or
whatever reason. Having any Catholics who have
decided against, or drifted from, active communion with
the Church leaves all of us less whole and our worship
less joyful. We long for them to be back at the Church's
table, and face to face, we want to tell them we miss
them." Rev Msgr Charles Troncale,
Pastor The next
session starts Wednesday, January 6th, 7:15pm
in the office conference room. Call (334) 269-2969 for
more
info. |

on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. for his class Instruction
on the Liturgy. This three week class will be held
Saturdays January 9th, 16th and 23rd. Cost is only

Why do Catholics have
priests? Many people ask this
question of us and sometimes we ask ourselves.
Come join Father Sreboth, pastor of Our Lady Queen
of Mercy, as he presents his class
The Priesthood: Christ and His Priests: A
look at the Letter to the Hebrews

$30 and includes the text The Ignatius Catholic
Study Bible: The Letter to the Hebrews.
Many of
us know stories of family and friends, even
our children, who have left the Church. We
are left bewildered, wondering
"Why did they leave?" Come
join Tom Riello, a former Presbyterian minister who
came back to the Church, as he explores answers to this
often difficult experience. Why Catholics Leave?
will held at 7 p.m. on four Tuesday nights at MCPS High
School Campus beginning January 26th, February 2nd,
9th, and 16th. Cost of the class is only $25
and includes course materials.

Bowl making
for Empty Bowls
It's time for Empty Bowls again! Empty
Bowls is a fundraiser for the Montgomery
Area Food Bank, where handmade bowls are made and
donated in order to support a luncheon in the
spring. If you are creative or just want to get
together with other folks to be part of something
worthwhile, we will be creating bowls at two different
times on January 21st at the parish hall.
The first session will run from 9-11am, and the second
session will be from 6:30-8:30pm. If you are
interested, all you need to do is call to reserve
space-so I'll have enough clay for you! Please call
Margaret Barber at 277-2823 before January
19th. |

Pastors
Corner
Christmas
We
distinguish between the commercial Christmas and the
Christian Christmas. The commercial Christmas is
about buying and selling up to Christmas. While
the Christian Christmas concentrates on the birth of
Christ and the subsequent celebrations we have after the
birth of the Savior. You don't celebrate winning
the super bowl until after you have won it. And
you don't celebrate an event until after it has
occurred. However the
commercial Christmas is gradually marginating the
birth of the Lord and it is our duty as Christians to
bring back Christ into Christmas-to "keep Christ in
Christmas". We do this by recognizing that the
birth of Christ is one of the most important events in
the history of the world-it beginning the process of
our salvation. We are moved by the loving and
loveable child. We are filled with hope, peace and
joy. God has not abandoned us. During the
Christmas season we celebrate the subsequent events to
the birth of the Lord- Mary becoming the mother of God,
the holy family, the coming of the wise men, etc. right
up to the baptism of the Lord (January 10th) which
covers the whole child hood years of Christ in
Nazareth. Christmas has a
lot to do with the development and spirituality of
Christians. Let us not be distracted by the
commercialization of Christmas to the point of losing
our spiritual development as Christians.
May we all
capture the true spirit of Christmas and live it
throughout this new year. May you all have a happy
and holy new year. Rev. Philip
