(Montgomery Area Perpetual Adoration Chapel)

Chair:        Joan Lynch                        Phone: 288-6620

Mission:     Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is a Catholic devotion and is the adoration of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Catholics join together to provide around the clock adoration and prayer before the Blessed Sacrament which is continuously exposed.  The Holy Eucharist is the sacrament of God’s infinite generosity towards man.  Those who are generous and willing to make a sacrifice by committing to one hour are the ones who bring down God’s blessing upon themselves, their loved ones, and on all humanity.   Are you are able to watch one hour with Our Lord?  You will find our Chapel at Our Lady Queen of Mercy Church at 4421 Narrow Lane Road.   Our vigil there has been continuous for almost two decades.   You may call our coordinators to schedule an hour:

                                                           Pricilla Berry      288-3292

                                                           Beth Russo         244-7866

You may choose the day and hour convenient for you.  If you cannot commit one hour, you are welcome to make visits anytime.   Also, you can place your name on a list of substitutes who cover for adorers who are unable to attend one of their hours.  Please come, He is waiting for you.

Mission:     Our Angel Tree ministry is an annual Christmas parish event.  We work with Catholic Social Services.  They provide us with names of families in need.  This event has grown each year and involves the whole parish family.  Parents and children participate in this special mission to serve God’s universal family.  The parish provides gifts as well as food.   All these gifts are delivered to Catholic Social Services to be distributed directly to the families in the program.  Sign-up for this ministry takes place in November of each year.  Information will be posted in the vestibule and gallery of the church as well as in the weekly church bulletin.

Chair:        Jeanette Gueret     Phone: 260-8234          Email: rgmb124@hotmail.com

Mission:     The ACCW supports and encourages the spiritual development of all Catholic women in the Archdiocese.

Activities:  The ACCW oversees the annual BURSE drive each year, and maintains its drive records for the Diocese.  This apostolate works in offering financial and spiritual support of those young men who are preparing for the priesthood through seminary studies. ACCW encompasses the Mobile, Baldwin-Escambia, Montgomery, and Dothan Deaneries.  Quarterly meetings are held in each Deanery.  Once a year, in the fall, all deaneries come together for an annual convention.  The purpose is to hold our annual Business meeting, allow time for retreat and fellowship, and to present our Archbishop the BURSE check from our fundraising efforts that current year.  Additional funds for our seminarians are donated from the selling of spiritual intention cards.

Chair:          Mark Sadie                      Phone: 396-6950          Email: marksadie@bellsouth.net

Mission:     To provide Holy Spirit Parishioners the opportunity to fellowship with one another through organized athletic events.

Activities:  Typical activities in the recent years have included Church softball teams participating in the Montgomery city leagues for spring and fall seasons. Also, Holy Spirit has recently participated in the Montgomery City Church basketball league during the winter months. League play requires a certain number of committed participants, so teams at Holy Spirit are formed when parishioners display enough interest. In addition, the MCPS gym at Catholic High has been available during certain months for pick up basketball games. Other sporting activities can easily be added if enough interest is generated.

Mission:  To provide a marriage preparation program with a married couple to offer information and support before a couple commits to their life-long vocation.

Activities:  Today and all the days of your life is a program of marriage preparation which includes an eight segment video series with a corresponding Couple Workbook and Facilitator Guide.  The video segments weave together stories of Catholic couples who have been living out their Sacrament of Matrimony.  It is hoped that engaged couples will be able to relate these stories to their own lives with the help of the workbooks and to begin to write their own marriage story.  A Mentor Couple hosts the Engaged Couple(s) in their home to complete the eight sessions at times that are convenient for both couples.  Each session is about two hours long.  We need married couples in our parish to help with this program.

Mission:     Engaging people of faith to empower homeless families to return to stability.

The Family Promise Network of Montgomery is an ecumenical network of host churches that provide homeless families with safe accommodations nightly and support services daily.  St. Bede Catholic Church, First United Methodist, Landmark Church of Christ, and St. John’s Episcopal are among the ten Montgomery congregations participating in this interfaith network.  St. Bede, the Catholic host site, is able to accommodate six adults and eight children in their parish hall. They are involved in this mission for one week at a time, four times a year. The major goal of the program is to assist the head of the family to find work and to acquire financial stability for an apartment or house.

Activities:  Would you like to be on a team of volunteers from Holy Spirit to help St. Bede Catholic with a night of hospitality -- to prepare dinner or to be a host family for the guest families?  What better way to teach your children hospitality -- to cook and serve a meal, to help the children with homework or to read a story, and to visit with the families?  In case of an emergency, two adults are also needed nightly to sleep over.  Wouldn’t you like a chance to sleep through a volunteer project?  Holy Spirit helps with financial contributions each month, but it would be wonderful for members of our parish to assist the St. Bede volunteers one night of their host week as well. You are invited to serve in this mission.  If interested in becoming a Holy Spirit volunteer, please contact Dee Turberville, 396-9213.

Altar Servers perform their ministry so that our worship at liturgy can be more prayerful and meaningful. At Holy Spirit a point system is in place to encourage attendance and rewards are given each year. With the use of three Servers at each Mass, we are in great need at all Masses. The only requirement is that the server be able to carry one of the processional candles. We encourage second graders to join in this ministry.

Wedding Coordinator

Chair:          Mary Nell Pecot              Phone:  207-0342

Mission:    The sacrament of Marriage is a joyous occasion, shared intimately by the man and woman who are committing their lives to one another.  The spiritual preparedness lasts a lifetime, and the festivities surrounding the exchange of vows take on epic proportions.  Our clergy conduct rehearsals with the parish wedding coordinator in attendance. If clergy, other than parish clergy, preside, then they are responsible for collecting the proper documentation on the evening of the rehearsal. Following Parish guidelines, the wedding coordinator will assist the clergy in a “dry run” of the ceremony. The wedding coordinator is in attendance on the day of the wedding, attending to last minute details, as well as providing hospitality to the guests of the bride and groom. As a representative of both the Ministry and our Parish, you become an integral part of the celebration of this sacrament, and have an opportunity to share in the joy and happiness of many Parish members.

Activities: We meet Sunday mornings in the parish conference room from 9:15 a.m. to about 10:30 a.m. so that everyone may attend the Mass of their choice.  We cover all topics pertinent to the Catholic Faith during these sessions.

Chair:          John Klein                       Phone: 538-2913

Mission:     The respect life committee works to promote the culture of life in both the parish and the community.  In the parish we maintain a literature table and billboard area all year.  In conjunction with respect life month we have a literature outreach to the parish.  We have members who sidewalk counsel in front of the Beacon abortion clinic.  Our members are also active in setting up the Cemetery of the Innocent display in conjunction with the Roe vs. Wade decision to legalize abortion.  We work directly with COPE, which is a local crisis pregnancy center with our time, talent and donations.  An important aspect of our ministry is reaching out to those within our own church who either through lack of knowledge or improper catechesis do not understand the church’s consistent teaching in regard to abortion, euthanasia, living wills, and all other life issues.  We are always looking for new people and ideas to promote the gospel of life!
